After careful consideration, the decision has been made to cancel the Tiny Schools Track Meet today at Bear Creek Park due to inclement weather. The meet has been rescheduled for Friday May 31st. A big thank you to all of the organizers, coaches, students, and parents for their flexibility and understanding. A reminder that schools are able to use any of the following methods to confirm the status of the track meets:

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE This is my second opportunity as President of the Surrey Elementary Athletic Society (SEAS) to write the President’s Message for our year-end celebration AGM/BBQ. It is a very exciting opportunity for me considering the inspiring people I get to write about. I am excited about the future of SEAS because of the people in our district. Numerous teachers and administrator volunteers work hard behind the scenes communicating with coaches to make sport possible in our district. They provide a critical service in key leadership roles within SEAS. They organize leagues, mentor coaches, and spend hours of their own time away from family and friends to ensure enjoyment of sport by all coaches and student athletes in elementary schools in Surrey. They are the pulse of elementary sports in our district and a simple thank you cannot measure up to their efforts. This year SEAS welcomed two new faces to our Zone Rep team. Thank you to Mat Zadvorny and Martin Wheeler who joined Zone Rep veterans Raminder Randhawa, Ixchel Bradley-Buick, Phil Turcotte, Steve Swaddling, and Elizabeth Hinman. They communicated with their respective zones and were responsible for almost all sport schedules for participating schools in their zone. Thank you to Cross-Country Conveners Chris Baldry, Chris Stanger, Lise Fjermestad, Phil Turcotte, Ross Davidson and Andrew Shook who spent many hours setting up race courses, organizing their own teams, organizing ribbons, and did an awesome job creating many enjoyable opportunities for many students at meets during the busy times in September and October. Our Soccer Convenor, Kali Pinto did an amazing job handling all the registrations, booking of fields, ensuring every team that wanted to participate in a Playday could. His efforts were super human this year. Jennifer Tarnowski was a welcomed addition to our SEAS team this year as our Volleyball Convener. She had an excellent year answering questions of enthusiastic coaches and doing a lot of behind the scenes work to ensure coaches understood the rules and had their ribbons in time for their Playdays. Thank you to Basketball Co-Convenors Erik Henderson and Rachel Baldry for organizing the coaching and referee clinics and ensuring every student received playday ribbons and every coaching question was answered. The clinics are a valuable opportunity to learn the game in fun atmosphere. Thank you to Surrey School District Teacher Dave Berry for lending his assistance to the Referee Clinic. Next year will see Erik Henderson stepping down from his role as Co-Convenor of basketball. He has enjoyed his years of service in this role and looks forward to continuing as Vice-President in SEAS and enjoying his young family. Thank you for your leadership! We would like to welcome energetic teacher and sports enthusiast Ron Dorland into the position of Co-Convenor with Rachel Baldry. Thank you again to Chris Humeston who single handedly organized the many Badminton teams into leagues and Playdays. Thank you again for your leadership! This Years Ultimate Season saw spectacular efforts from Kim Buchanen and Paul Thompson who ensured a wonderfully successful Playday with 32 teams at South Surrey Athletic Park. Thank you again for your efforts! Finally we look forward to many sunny days in late May and early June for our annual set of track meets. Thank you to Ryan Bolton, Ross Davidson, Chris Gauvin, and the many others on the team for undertaking the planning and organizing the 6 Barry Morely Memorial Track Meets. Overseeing this entire operation is our Executive Members, who strive to ensure SEAS is functioning at an optimal level. Our dedicated Vice-President Erik Henderson, star secretary Rachel Baldry, Treasurer Kevin Larkin, Social Media Leader Kerry Schwab, organized and helpful Admin Rep Jas Atwal, and our spirited and organized Special Events Coordinator Liz Swenson who kept us smiling and looking forward to the big events within SEAS. Our thoughtful, knowledgeable, resourceful, and helpful PE Helping Teacher Glenn Young and our great PE Secretaries Evelyn Bohmer and Melinda Lee who worked tirelessly behind the scenes helping facilitate administrative tasks and keep us organized day to day behind the scenes. Thank you all so much for everything you do! It means a lot to me to work on a team with people who care deeply about the impact athletics plays in the lives of the students we teach. Finally, I would like to reiterate how thankful I am to everyone who gives so much of themselves in terms of time and effort to student athletics in Surrey. You are all amazing educators and coaches! Each of you in your own way creates a positive environment that nurtures teamwork, fair play, and improved skill. Enjoy your summer, and we are hopeful our seasons will be on track and we’ll see many of you on the courts and fields in 2013-2014. Dinner Time Below are some of the e-mails Marg Geddes received from teachers, principals, and students who attended this amazing event yesterday. A huge thank you to all of the dedicated organizers and coaches who made the meet possible! "Marg - that day was one of the best of my life - in all the years of teaching I have never seen anything so overwhelmingly special for the most wonderful kids in our system. Al Pichler's productions come in a close second but this was hands down incredible. You have touched the lives of so many in ways that are not duplicated in our system in any other way and likely for these kids not again in their lives.....Bask in the glow...." Hugs Lillah Martin Early Learning/Literacy Helping Teacher "Hi Marg, I found today's track event inspiring. Thanks so much for the invite. The real key for me was the following: One of my students came up to me with a big grin on his face and he said,"Mr. Leung...today I'm a winner!" (Ok...while this touched me...I have to admit I'm a little sad too because it also means that other days he doesn't feel like he is a winner:( Anyways, I am sure it is this feeling of success that is all the reason I need to make this happen for kids. So, I am definitely interested in taking this on. I guess I need to do some thinking about how to get it started." Stephen Leung Vice-Principal, Dr. George M. Weir Elementary "Hi Marg, Thanks so much for fitting our kids in -- they had a great day. I had two in my office after school sharing all of their ribbons, pins and their hats. They said they had "...the best day ever!" What a great event for these kids - thank you for all of your hard work." Ixchel Buick Principal, Janice Churchill Elementary PS -- The weather turned out to be great :) "I just want to give a big thanks to Kim and Paul for organizing the Ultimate Playday!!!! My kids had a lot of fun. This season was their first exp. playing Ultimate. The parents who drove and watched were quite impressed with the layout and the organization as well. I look forward to next years Playday, with hopefully the same format, layout, and venue." Tor Karlsen Grade 6 Teacher Chantrell Creek Elementary "Hear hear!
