This is a last call for SEAS year end sports ribbons. I have a few thousand left. If your school did not order sports ribbons please go to the following location and place your order. I will send out based on first ordered until I run out. Steve Surrey Elementary Athletics Click HERE for link On behalf of the Surrey Elementary Schools Athletic Association (SESAA), we would like to inform you that all 6 of the Barry Morley Memorial District Elementary Track Meets will be proceeding with the following conditions to respect the current labour restrictions:
The teacher volunteers who comprise the Track and Field Coordinators (Jim Bennest, Ryan Bolton, Ross Davidson, Chris Gauvin, Joe O'Malley) would like to thank you for your ongoing patience in these complicated times and encourage all schools to participate in the track meets. As things are very fluid at the moment, we will advise you if conditions change. Thank you for your understanding and patience. Cheers, Glenn Young | Physical Education and Athletics District Coordinator Due to the BCTF rotating strike scheduled for next Thursday, May 29, the district elementary track meet for medium schools has been changed to Friday, May 30. We understand the levels of coordination that have taken place at your schools in order to schedule this day as well as other events that are also scheduled and potentially conflict with the rescheduled Friday May 30 date. On behalf of the Surrey Elementary Schools Athletic Association we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. Dinner Time 12. Adjournment This is my third opportunity as President of the Surrey Elementary Athletic Society (SEAS) to write the President’s Message for our year-end celebration AGM/BBQ. It is a very exciting opportunity for me, considering the inspiring people I get to write about. I am happy today to unveil our new name Surrey Elementary Schools Athletic Association (SESAA), and the creation of our new logo to match our new name. Our new home on the web is www.sesaa.org. Here you can find updates to our blog, announcements, and information related to individual sports. I am excited about the future of SESAA because of the people in our district. Numerous teachers and administrator volunteers work hard behind the scenes, communicating with coaches to make sport possible in our district. They provide a critical service in key leadership roles within SESAA. They organize leagues, mentor coaches, and spend hours of their own time away from family and friends to ensure enjoyment of sport by all coaches and student athletes in elementary schools in Surrey. They are the pulse of elementary sports in our district and a simple thank you cannot measure up to their efforts. Thank you again to Cross-Country Convenors Chris Baldry, Chris Stanger, Lisa Fjermestad, Phil Turcotte, Ross Davidson and Andrew Shook who spent many hours setting up race courses, organizing their own teams, organizing ribbons, and did an awesome job of creating many enjoyable opportunities for many students at meets during the busy times in September and October. Our new Soccer Convenor, Casey James, did a fantastic job introducing himself to our coaches, handling all the registrations, booking fields, and ensuring every team that wanted to participate in a Play Day could. Thank you also to Jennifer Tarnowski, who supported the SESAA team this year as our Volleyball Convenor. She had an excellent year answering questions of enthusiastic coaches and doing a lot of behind-the-scenes work to ensure coaches understood the rules and had their ribbons in time for their Play Days. Thank you to Basketball Co-Convenors Erik Henderson, Rachel Baldry, and Ron Dorland for organizing the coaching and referee clinics and ensuring every student received Play Day ribbons and every coaching question was answered. The clinics are a valuable opportunity to learn the game in a fun atmosphere. Thank you to Surrey School District Teacher Dave Berry and new PE helping teacher Dean Maion for lending their expertise to leading the Referee Clinic. Thank you also to Glenn Young for leading the ABCs of Basketball Coaching Clinic. Next year will see Erik Henderson stepping down from his role as Co-Convenor of basketball. He has enjoyed his years of service in this role and looks forward to continuing on as President in SESAA and enjoying his young family. Thank you for your leadership. I am excited for the future of SESAA. Thank you also to Chris Humeston, who single-handedly organized the many Badminton teams into leagues and Play Days. Thank you again for your leadership! This year’s Ultimate season saw spectacular efforts from Kim Buchanan and Paul Thompson, who ensured a wonderfully successful Play Day with many teams at South Surrey Athletic Park. Thank you again for your efforts! Finally, we look forward to many sunny days in late May and early June for our annual set of track meets. At the time of writing this, we are in phase 1 of job action. Under the current conditions, we believe meets can go ahead; but they would be shortened to honour the hour before and the hour after the school-hour component of the teacher job action. Thank you to Ryan Bolton, Ross Davidson, Chris Gauvin, and the many others on the team for undertaking the planning and organizing of the six Barry Morley Memorial Track Meets. It is a massive undertaking and is truly appreciated by all students and coaches. Overseeing this entire operation is our Executive Members, who strive to ensure SESAA is functioning at an optimal level. Our dedicated Vice-President Erik Henderson, star Secretary Rachel Baldry, Treasurer Kevin Larkin, Social Media Leader Kerry Schwab, organized and helpful Admin Rep Jas Atwal, and our spirited and organized Special Events Coordinator Liz Swenson who kept us smiling and looking forward to the big AGM/BBQ. Our thoughtful, knowledgeable, resourceful, and helpful PE Helping Teachers Glenn Young and Dean Maion, and our great PE Secretary Melinda Lee, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes helping to facilitate administrative tasks and keep us organized day-to-day behind the scenes. Thank you all so much for everything you do! It means a lot to me to work on a team with people who care deeply about the impact athletics plays in the lives of the students we teach. Finally, I would like to reiterate how thankful I am to the coaches of our district who give much of themselves in terms of time and effort to student athletics. Each of you cares deeply about creating a positive environment that nurtures teamwork, fair play, and improved skill. It is with great excitement and sadness that I step down as President of SESAA. I look forward to coaching my children in community sports, exploring other interests, and ensuring our new lawn gets the care it deserves. SESAA is in good hands with the leadership of Erik Henderson. He works hard, has great ideas, and cares deeply about sport and making decisions that better the experience for student athletes and coaches. Enjoy your summer, and we are hopeful our seasons will be on track and we’ll see many of you on the courts and in the fields in 2014-2015. Sincerely, Hugh McDonald SESAA, President Grade 6/7 Teacher Georges Vanier Elementary Our Track & Field season is now underway!
