A Simple and Fun Layup Drill to Help Coaches and Players

We are are now entrenched in another fun and exciting basketball season. Surrey students are fortunate to have many impressive volunteers coaching and organizing our leagues. I would like to put out a huge thank you to all them who make sport fun and possible.

I love youtube! It is a quick and easy way to search out ideas to keep my classroom and my basketball practices fresh and helpful to the students I am teaching and coaching. Below is a quick video on a simple drill that will help my students practice the fundamentals of basketball. Enjoy!

Registration for Basketball is now open. The deadline for registration has been extended until December 19th.

You can also register now for the ABC's of Basketball Clinic. It will be held on Tuesday January 15th from 3:30-5:15 at Simon Cunningham Elementary.

Thank you Volleyball Coaches! Basketball Coming Soon to a Court Near You!

THANK YOU to all the volleyball coaches who dedicated their time and efforts to giving the best of themselves to coach students this year. I know from all the games I watched this year the students understanding of the game grew immensely through the season.

A BIG THANK YOU also to our Zone Reps who co-ordinated all the schedules for the 100 Surrey Elementary schools participating in Boys, Girls, Coed, A, and B leagues and Playdays. Ixchel Bradley-Buick, Steve Swaddling, Mat Zadvorny, Martin Wheeler, Elizabeth Hinman, Phil Turcotte, and Raminder Rhandawa are all Surrey teacher and administrator who generously and thoughtfully volunteer because they believe in the power of sport.

Finally, on behalf of SEAS, a GIGANTIC THANK YOU goes out to new Volleyball Convenor, Jennifer Tarnowski for all the behind the scenes expertise and hard work she did to ensure a successful and fun season. Lots of work goes into organizing our seasons, and we are grateful for the strength of character and hard work these people do on a daily basis to make sure sport is possible at Elementary Schools in Surrey.

With Volleyball season just ending the sign up for Basketball starts later this week. Please stay tuned to this page for registration info for the season. The links will include registration for: teams, ABCs of Basketball coaching clinic, and the SEAS Basketball Referee's clinic. A HUGE THANK YOU to our new Basketball Convenor team of veteran Erik Henderson and rookie Rachel Baldry who will work hard supporting coaches throughout the Surrey School District. Our season will start in the new year and zone reps will have zone schedules out in late December or the early part of January 2013.

SEAS Sneaker - September 2012

Welcome to our initial blog post. We are a group of dedicated volunteers located in Surrey, BC, Canada. We communicate, co-ordinate, and work with coaches to foster an environment of participation, enjoyment, and improved skill in a variety of sports in Surrey (SD#36), British Columbia Elementary Schools. Students in our district enjoy soccer, cross-country, volleyball, basketball, badminton, ultimate, and track & field sport seasons. The sports are primarily coached by Surrey Elementary teacher, principal, and vice-principal volunteers.

The purpose of this blog is to provide insight into our leagues, philosophies, rules, students, executive, convenors, zone reps, and coaches. This blog in time will hopefully see guest posts done by a variety of volunteers within and possibly outside our school district. They will give insight on their experiences and expertise relating to student athletics inside and outside of SD#36.
